Oceanside continued their Championship Series, for the Van Slyke Trophy on 2-2-08, with the “Year of the Rat” regatta. The weather cleared for the rescheduled event, and 5 races were contested. Sue Djikman and Mike opened with an Ace, and each race had a new victor, until Larry Rowe and James dealt the winning blow with bullets in the 2 final races. Given Harrison and Lou led the 2nd race from gun to gun, and The Two Timmys even captured 1 victory, despite several misadventures with kelp. Considering the close action displayed in the photos, there was a notable absence of contact, shouting, protests, and those dizzying circles. Back on the “F” Dock, the lies overheard at the party and trophy presentation were minor.
